The somewhat secluded location overlooking the Hudson Valley allowed me to do some long nighttime exposures which are always fun!

We ended up doing this shoot on what turned out to be the windiest day I remember in NYC! Sure there was some "fly away" hair, but we had a lot of fun on the Brooklyn Bridge.

International Pillow Fight - NYC

April 3rd, 2010 was International Pillow Fight Day. New York's location was Union Square.

I showed up about 10 minutes before the pillows started flying, and I decided to get into the crowd up close and personal. That was sort of a mistake - I felt like a sardine in a can mounted to an industrial paint mixer. It sure was fun though!

Michael David's Bar Mitzvah

Lindsay & Lawrence were bubbliciously fun on their wedding day! I don't think Lindsay stopped laughing the whole time. They were recipients of a beautiful October day in Vernon, NJ at the Minerals Resort & Spa. That's one of those secluded places where you can actually see the stars at night - awesome!

As far as I'm concerned, every boy's childhood fantasy is to own a lightsaber and to be able to beat the crap out of his friends with it in a friendly one-on-one. Well on April 25th, 2009 we got something close... Newmindspace , an interactive public art group, hosted the Lightsaber Battle NYC. They distributed 3000 cardboard tubes painted with blacklight glow paint and let the saber-bashin' begin. I wish I could've gotten closer to the action, but I was limited by my daughter's stroller... and you know she slept through the whole thing.

I had the pleasure of working with a truly great photographer and all around great guy - Luke Walker on what turned out to be my first Indian wedding. Wow! I'd love to do many many more of these! Luke had me come along as second photographer to cover Seema and Mohit's special day. How could I refuse?

The baraat was insane! The baraat alone lasted for at least an hour and everyone was dancing!

Dancing by Emergency Light - Mike & Jen

BANG! At first I thought I'd heard a gunshot, or a car backfiring. But no, it was the electrical transformer across the street exploding. That is, across the street from Mike & Jennifer's wedding at the Lounsbury House in Connecticut. So there we were with no electricity... dancing in the dark. With no air conditioning.

Mike & Jen handled it very well, posing with the fire truck that showed up. Guests went outside, some danced by emergency light. The band was awesome and played acoustically! I half expected them to play Paradise by the Dashboard Light (OK bad joke...). Later the electrical company showed up and fixed the problem... just about the same time the wedding reception came to an end. Nevertheless, Mike and Jennifer's wedding was thoroughly enjoyable, intimate, and filled with great moments. I had a great time.

Gotham Girls Roller Derby

I got to shoot another Gotham Girls Roller Derby bout on August 11th. It was held uptown at City College of NY, Nat Holman Gymnasium. There's just something cool about this rough and tumble group of gals - with names like Ginger Snap and Speedy Sedgwick - roller skating (not roller blading!) around in circles, smashing into each other for position. 2007 Coney Island Mermaid Parade

I finally got around to scanning film from this year's Mermaid Parade at Coney Island. That's right, I shot film... for a couple of reasons; I wanted a grittier look, and besides I was transitioning from one brand of digital gear to another at the time and so was without a digital SLR.

Sarah & Richard were the "funnest" couple I've had the pleasure of working with in awhile. Maybe it was Sarah's super bubbly laugh! :-) They were also patient enough with me to pose for some 4x5 Polaroids! I take those color Polaroids home, and do some emulsion lifts onto acid-free watercolor paper. The result is a completely unique piece of art. I love it!

I was hired by Kayode Bentley, President of 4T's Productions to photograph the Bars of Life Concert they produced.
According to their website, this organization seeks to "transform inner-city youth into entrepreneurs" by acting as a guiding force in the formation of a youth's career choice. Events like the concert serve to instruct and motivate these kids.
This particular concert featured many young Christian rappers and hip hop artists.

Temporal Intersection - Mom & The NYC Marathon

So Mom and her friends decided to visit us here early in November. She couldn't figure out why there were no hotel rooms available. As it turns out, it was Marathon Weekend! It slipped my mind too... even though there were signs posted everywhere. When bombarded with hundreds of images and other media, we tend to ignore it all, but that's another discussion.
At any rate, I photographed the race a little on the way to the subway station:

And yes, that guy really did say, "I need some french fries!" as he ran past me to McDonald's...

Bed NY is a killer club on West 27th Street in NYC. My Brother-from-another-mother and photo dude, Pete gets hired to photograph restaurants occasionally. When he does, he gives me a call if he needs the extra help.

To fully take advantage of the space, Pete had some models come over to play...

Sure, wedding photography is a blast, but shooting for a variety of different clients keeps me fresh. I really like being a generalist-type of photographer - one day it's a product shoot, the next it's a fashion shoot or a group of musicians... makes life interesting.

Mary Got Married!

Oh, I've waiting a long time to say that! I can't think of a better way to begin my new blog than to post some photos from my sister Mary's wedding. Mary and her husband Scott were married September 22nd at the Church of Transfiguration in NYC. Their reception was at Tavern on the Green in Central Park.

I love this shot of them in the cab. I really like shooting in low available light like this. It's a bit risky, but the rewards are worth it in my opinion! Here the city lights add some really interesting colors and depth to the image.

Here I took a page from Jason Groupp's Manual of Wedding Photography to get the cool streaks in the background. Thanks J :-)
